If I have a land-line telephone, shouldn't I be able to get DSL where i live?

I live about 17 miles from my town and ive tried to get high speed internet where i live at. well they said they couldn't because we live to far. well i was wondering if i could get dsl? since i have a land-line. would that work? i have mobile broadband because its faster than satellite internet. well i guess im trying to say is... i want the fastest internet available in my area. my zip code is 33857.
