This is VERY hard to understand. I doubt you will get much usable information. In doing research you need to give people a finite number of options form which to choose. If you're asking about material preference, list 4 and ask them to choose one or provide a preferential scale. From a design standpoint, provide multiple images and either force a choice ranking or get a scalar preference.
