How to save a bash script variable to a file?

I'm pretty sure BASH doesn't have this functionality. You'd want to do something in Python for this sort of thing. You can write out to a file in BASH, but its a very basic scripting language designed for running tasks and applications. Its not really designed for programming. Python or Ruby are better options.
